Warner Bros. Studios - The Making of Harry Potter

  • Kathryn Cox

TV. DIGITAL. SOCIAL. PITCH WIN. Dozens of concept artists, illustrators and art directors created every environment, prop and character of the Harry Potter film series. Lead by Production Designer Stuart Craig, the Art Department designed 588 sets across the Harry Potter film series. ‘Warner Bros. Studio Tour London–The Making of Harry Potter’ wanted to inspire families to explore the behind-the-scenes secrets of the Harry Potter films. My idea was to shine a light on the fabulous and intricate work of the concept artists behind the sets, by bringing their (often overlooked) technical drawings to life.

Warner Bros. opened their vast Harry Potter archive to provide us with the original sketches by Stuart Craig, along with individual technical drawings so we could create new set compositions. In a series of short spots, we transition from 3D concept art comps, to the real film sets on the Warner Bros. Studio Tour. John Sessions in voiceover and original music by John Williams, helped us portray the filmmaking magic of the Harry Potter films.

The spots made up a sponsorship campaign for ITV, ITV 2 and Channel 5, and where reworked for digital and social, for an integrated cross-platform campaign. All creative had to be approved by Warner Bros. London, USA, and J.K. Rowling’s team, the Blair Partnership.
