WARRINGTON WOLVES - Wire to Wolves

  • Charlie Battersby
Warrington Wolves were one of the original 22 founding clubs of the Northern Rugby Football Union in 1895 and one of the 12 founding clubs of the Super League era. In the 121 years since its formation, the history of the club and the town have been intertwined, experiencing sporting highs and tragic lows.
The challenge was how to tell the stories behind such a rich and proud history in a stadium without a dedicated exhibition space. The solution was to design and construct a 100 metre long, permanent graphic timeline along the concourse underneath the South Stand of the Halliwell Jones Stadium.
The Wire to Wolves timeline was the result of an extensive 12 month project working closely with the club, players and ex-players, community foundation, the Heritage Lottery Fund and local stakeholders.
The opening was attended by current and ex-players as well as members of the public. The event was also featured on Sky Sports News and their weekly Rugby League show, Boots N All.
The timeline was supported by two 12 minute documentaries, produced by Fuzzy Duck,  featuring interviews with players, club legends, fans and Rugby League personalities.
