In pigment, paint and dye stuffs, white is considered the absence of color; in lighting it is all colors coming together as one.
Lucio Fontana explored the relation between color and space in a very original way. The opening up of space captured his imagination, and ultimately convinced him that traditional art forms would soon face extinction and instead replaced by his concept of “Spatial Art”.

White is Carrara marble. Bianco Carrara is considered, both in Italy and abroad, the Italian marble par excellence. It is characterized by a very high percentage of calcium carbonate: white calcite crystals.

Calcite has a low refraction index: it allows light to enter in the stone giving it a special shininess before being reflected. This makes the white marble precious and refined.

The first opal glass objects were made in Murano in the 16th century, with the addition of calcium phosphate, resulting from the calcination of the bones. Called also “milk glass”, it is a translucent glass due to the dispersion of florides, phosphates, oxides and as a consequence of the formation of gaseous bubbles extremely small.
