World's First Vegan Suite

Bompas & Parr has designed the world's first vegan hotel suite using an all plant-based, entirely selection of natural materials, fibres and surfaces - avoiding all leather, feathers and wool - in a move which shows veganism is no longer only a dining trend but can also influence a wider lifestyle choice. With pineapples at the centre: Central to the design of the suite, which is in the Hilton London Bankside hotel, is an innovative material called Piñatex - a vegan-friendly fruit leather made from the cellulose fibres of the pineapple. In doing so, the suite celebrates London’s botanical heritage and history: the pineapple was first imported into London via nearby Borough Market and the fruit is an unlikely symbol of the capital's architecture in the local area, represented on Lambeth Bridge and the decorative filials of St. Paul's Cathedral. Guests will be able to enjoy a vegan stay from the moment they check in, with upholstered Piñatex seating and a keycard also made from the material. In the suite they will find pillows stuffed with a choice of organic buckwheat or millet hulls, kapok or bamboo fibres instead of feathers. Every little detail Underfoot they will walk on cotton carpets rather than wool, and rest on Piñatex-covered footstools, scatter cushions and a headboard embroidered by local artist Emily Potter. In addition, all toiletries, snacks and drinks and cleaning products used by the hotel's housekeeping staff are all entirely free of animal products. Even the stationery is all vegan-friendly, with no animal traces in the paper or ink. The Vegan Suite is available to book immediately – simply contact reservations@hiltonbankside.co.uk to book a stay.
