YIGA GAOLOU COWIE

  • ELLA DHC

Impromptu shoot wit my bestfriend and singer, Yiigaa. She had an array of fabrics laying around and two heating lamps, one which wouldn't even work unless I held it down constantly. I had to shoot using one hand but managed to make it work, the yellow lighting of the heating lamp made the colours pop even more, appearing more intimate wit Yiigaa as they blended around her, highlighting her face and the blue of her eyelids. The outdoor part of the shoot, we decided to use a similar range of fabrics to match her eyelids as well as get her to wear this beautiful blue African printed dress. Putting my outdoor backdrop to use, you can see how we played around with it. We didn't want it to appear too "professional" with the set up, hence the ability to see the backdrop clips and holders. The authenticity and vibe of real ness gives the shoot the extra push. I believe these photos give you an idea of the true Yiga Gaolou, of the Guru tribe located in Maniniguie village, Ivory Coast.
