With the attention of the music industry currently focused on the UK’s ever emergent urban scene, it’s only right we attempt to pay homage to those artists who have instrumentally showcased the talent so rife in London and the rest of the UK. 2017 has gifted us with record setters, amazing albums and young kings making major impacts.
The organic energy of these artists infiltrates into the music of our City, enhancing our daily commutes, drunken nights out and of course the incredible culture of London. Real impacts have been made by young individuals, showcased more recently by the list of winners of the 2017 Mobo awards. Dave; aged 19, J Hus; aged 21 and Stormzy; aged 24 collectively hold 5 Mobo awards for this year alone. Break outs for these artists in 2017 have been huge. Dave’s track Wanna Know was remixed by Drake, Stormzy is now a household name, after guest judging on the X Factor and being a regular guest on Jonathan Ross and J Hus has covered Fader magazine alongside his album reaching the top 10 in the UK.
So who else should we be looking out for and listening to as the year comes to a close? One artist who has peaked major interest after his remix circulated social media, is Yxng Bane. His remix of Ed Sheeran’s Shape of You was incredibly popular throughout the summer, with Ed giving his nod of approval. Additional tracks such as Rihanna have wider audiences getting more out of his music; the blend of afropop, rap and dancehall is attractive to different listeners, thereby creating more of a buzz around the artist.
Proving he can keep the interest of both sexes peaked in his music, Baney Boy recently dropped a track for the streets. Froze has a colder vibe, visuals with Kojo Funds and is shot in East London Yxng Bane once again showcasing his versatility. Compare this to a summer track that made it’s way onto socials, enjoying perhaps a delayed come up. No Way by Crazy Cousinz featuring Yxng Bane among others has over 400,000 views and over 7K shares. With much more of a dancehall vibe this one is yet again for another set of listeners. Fans of Yxng Bane will never tire of his sound, his refreshing verses and the energy that comes with the delivery is something rare that very few others can tap into and replicate.
