zoal bench

  • Iqra Hussayn

A self assembly furniture piece inspired by structural joints and my multicultural heritage, celebrating the marriage of English and Pakistani traditional furniture making. The challenge was to design furniture with no fixtures or unnecessary materials with sustainable manufacture being the heart of the piece, the dry joint construction is central to the design philosophy. The bench being self assembly allows the user to be a part of the process, in doing so promoting an emotional connection, creating a longer life span, decreasing constant throw away attitudes. The dry construction, inspired by campaign furniture, allows the piece to twist, adding a playful touch to the design. Further becoming structurally sound when adding weight of the user.
