I graduated with a First Class Honours in Graphic Design from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design in Dundee, Scotland. After going on to complete the D&AD New Blood Academy after graduation, I went on to work at retail and brand consultancy FITCH, where I worked for four years.
I trained as a graphic designer but my time at FITCH broadened my skill set into spatial and environmental design, producing retail concepts for multiple Adidas campaigns, and learning Cinema 4D in order to bridge the gap between the two. My skills in motion design have continued to develop throughout this time, being called upon on many occasions to create brand films and animations for clients to gain better understanding of concepts, and bring branded content to life.
Creatively, I’m hugely concept driven - everything is considered, and created with purpose and care to align with broader brand strategy. I was recently a speaker at Retail Design Expo on designing for a Gen Z audience, being a keen follower of industry trends and applying cross category learnings to my work.
I’ve been a core part of organising and art directing photoshoots in other countries; been a mentor to D&AD students and part of the NMC Mentoring Scheme; and taken on responsibility for encouraging our creative culture in the form of organising Thursday 5:15 presentations and studio blog. Last year I was honoured to have been asked to be one of the judges for the D&AD New Blood Awards, a relationship I am proud to have upheld since my time as a graduate academy member.
I balance my studio life with personal creative work, that is much more hands-on than
on-screen. I volunteer for Greenpeace at Glastonbury where I am part of the build team for the field, designing large scale graphics and getting my hands dirty on-site - painting, varnishing, mounting, then of course a bit of partying. I also enjoy designing and upcycling items of furniture for my flat, and getting green fingers making terrariums. I find the freedom away from the screen to paint, build and create physical things incredibly important and actually quite therapeutic.
A more recent ambition of mine for 2019 is to learn more skills in filmmaking, and write and direct my own short. I would love to be able to combine my design background with these skills to mould a more focused career directory into graphic design for film.
I have a breadth of skills in visual communication, motion design and production. Please feel free to contact me to discuss any upcoming projects or opportunities.
