My part time position enabled me to work in the retail sector of a company which prides itself on fostering creativity and individuality in its selling. I assisted in the management of the database for the 27th Interfilm international short film festival and the 4th Kuki film festival for children and young people. Key roles and responsibilities: • Handling all postal and online (shortfilmdepot.com) film submissions • Archiving film data in the festival database (FileMaker Pro 6) and managing the current festival library • Corresponding with German and international film makers • Researching film information for the archive, festival catalogue and database • Training a new member of staff in the workings of the festival database • Assisting in the screening and evaluating process for both the Interfilm and Kuki festivals which took place in November 2011 Working to deadlines allowed me to improve my time managment and organisational skills.
I had to ensure all press and industry attendees were registered for each screening along with any VIP guests and jury members. I also played a small role in the running of several festival events including the opening party. This position strengthened my interpersonal skills and ability to manage crowds.
Electives: Modern Middle Eastern History, Business Studies, Scandinavian Studies and Criminology. I spent my third year in Berlin studying for one semester at the Freie Universität and carrying out a five month internship at Interfilm. My final year dissertation was based on the book 'Austerlitz' by W.G Sebald exploring the construction of identity through photography.
