About me
Hello, This is Airy Chen.
I’m a Taiwanese design student currently living in London. After graduating in BA visual communication design in Taiwan University of Arts, I studied the MA communication design course in Central Saint Martins to explore more possibilities of visual communication and envision myself.
I am fascinated with vintage, Japanese pattern and Bohemian style things. My favorite artists are Laura Laine and Peter Doig. The inspiration of my works are mainly from the mother nature and my observation and comprehension from daily life. Watercolur, pastel and collage are the medium I often apply in illustration and graphic works. I believe the charms of hand drawing.
Projects
- the portraitFor the portrait of the melody I am thinking visualizing the grooving and the rhythm people "seeing" while listening. From my point of view, the ripple effect that inks merging in the water is so similar to the abstract image that melody gradually fills the mind. I apply it as a metaphor in this part. - Dissolving in TimeDissolving in Time is my graduation project which aims to visualize the distillation of WABI-SABI. It is about the beauty of the transience and the moment. The aesthetic philosophy of WABI-SABI challenges people to unlearn the views of beauty and embrace the changes from the natural rhythm. The video is my attempt to explore the intuitive appreciation of the transient beauty in the physical world that reflects the irreversible flow of life in the spiritual world.
- Re-info magazineIn modern days, there are full of sensational news in our society. We illustrate a future-style news production , which do not demonstrate the facts. In contrast, the news is carefully modified and combined with other materials by people. Through packaging the controversial issue with creating a virtual laboratory, we intend to discuss the process of chemical transformation of news when they are broadcasted.
