Electronic Music Production BA Hons Student (Graduated)Bristol, United Kingdom
About me
My name is Alex Hale; I am a creative, DJ, Producer, Artist, Barman and Artist Liaison Officer from Hereford, based in Bristol. Having studied Electronic Music Production BA Hons at dBs Music over the past three years, I am now honing my skills in other areas of music, alongside implementing the important lessons and skills learnt while studying at dBs Music Bristol. DJing has been the focal point of the last 4 years, touring venues up and down the country, and performing to crowds of all shapes and sizes. Recently having a debut at Motion Bristol in front of 600+ people has driven me to find quality artist representation and a bookings officer. My live performance experience is substantial, having been part of the electronic music scene for the last 4 years. I have experience setting up and running my own events with my successful brand Lab17, in Bristol. Rebranded as Sudo Sound, I am now the CEO of my own Dub, 140 and UK Bass music label; something I am very proud about. This year has been a big year for me, working at Glastonbury 2019 as an Artist Liaison officer was a dream come true; working under George Ibbetson gave me valuable experience I could not have gained anywhere else. Other Artist Liaison work was sadly scuppered by the weather as I was due to work at Houghton 2019, one of the most prestigious electronic music festivals in the world, but sadly it was cancelled last minute. Working as a barman and a DJ simultaneously has taught me to keep strict schedules and to be ready to work hard, for long hours. Getting to events on time and in a professional manner is something that is transferable in most walks of life; reliability, professionally and a happy demeanour are just a few of the traits I have acquired through my live performance experiences and events bar work. Additional Skills MS Office: Word, Publisher, Powerpoint, Excel, Outlook. Operating Systems: Mac OS X (All recent versions), Windows XP/Vista/7, Linux, Ubuntu. Digital Audio Workstations: Logic 9 & X, Ableton 9 & 10, Protools. Other: iMovie, Rekordbox, Garageband, Traktor Pro.
Projects
  • Sudo Sound - Dub LabelI am currently in the process of launching my own 140 / Dub / UK Bass label, based in Bristol. Sudo Sound aims to supply a more organic, industrial and deeper take on the current 140 scene. Supplying a niche sound that has yet to be cornered in the Bristol electronic music scene, Sudo has already gained the notice of the industry and is growing day by day. We aim to incorporate some of the best visual artists around in the project, alongside already established and upcoming selectors and DJs ali

I first purchased a copy of Logic 9 back in 2013, and I still regard this as the beginning of my career as a producer, making simplistic beats and rhythms while implementing my basic piano and saxophone skills at the time. 6, nearly 7, years later, I am a fully formed Producer and DJ, making a releasing music in Bristol. Having completed Piano to a Grade 6 standard, Grades 7 & 8 were achievable but I had come to the end of my tether with the examination structure at the time. Being able to now implement my piano and music theory into my productions, I have crafted my own style and sound of music through many different musical influences during my childhood. Taking a huge interest in world music, jazz, classical, rock, funk & soul, electronica, experimental, techno, drum and bass, house, garage, dub, reggae; I could go on forever. I have an extremely eclectic and vast music taste that has stemmed from my yearly association with Womad festival (a huge part of my life), and this now filters down to my productions, incorporating many different rhythms, styles, beats, speeds, chords, melodies and harmonies from a vast array of genres and places around the globe. Now producing on Ableton Live 10, I am pushing my productions every day and hope to pursue some record deals and releases very soon. Combining this with my DJ work, I am progressing every day as bother a disc-jockey and an artist. I have recently started my own Bristol-based record label and events company, 'Sudo Sound', which focuses on the darker, deeper and more industrial end of the Dub, 140 and uK Bass music spectrum. This is a big outlet for me to gather and involve some of my favourite artists and build a talented and functioning collective of artists and creators that build up a 'family' within Sudo Sound. The mix series is already competing with some labels and music sites that have been running for at least a year, and the calibre of the artists involved is obvious. soundcloud.com/sudosoundbristol

Travelling the country DJing for the past 4-5 years has given me a valuable insight into the music industry. I have gained huge experience in live performance and sound engineering while touring different cities and venues, giving me a vast knowledge of various systems and scenarios. This way of life has taught me to keep strict schedules and to be ready to work hard, for long hours. Getting to events on time and in a professional manner is something that is transferable in most walks of life; reliability, professionality and a happy demeanour are just a few of the traits I have acquired through my live performance experiences.
