• News editing the City pages, working closely with the business editor to run the section, which is read by more people in the business world than the FT, Daily Telegraph and The Times combined.
• Overseeing the day-to-day on the desk, including monitoring breaking news on the wires and social media, finding stories and scoops and working with the team to develop stories, as well as commissioning and editing features and columns.
• Presenting my news list in conference to all senior editors each day.
• Responsible for the last proof of each page before it goes to press.
• Quick-thinking within the pace of a daily newspaper, filing for print and online deadlines, always with the aim to break the biggest stories and provide the clearest analysis.
• In addition to news editing, I am the retail correspondent, and I have long-standing contacts on this beat.
• Inspiring and motivating the business team, creating an environment that encourages and develops new ideas and creativity.
• Writing regularly for the Standard home news and sports pages, and previously for the Independent and the i Paper.
