My experience ranges back to when I was 16 and got my first paid commission for Ping! Bar and Restaurant in London, with some artworks for use in their merchandising and in-house barbers. Although my style of Illustration has changed since then, my drive and attention to detail to create the best pieces I can, has not. Since graduating in summer 2017, I have completed a number of private commissions for clients, mostly portraits, and I exhibited my work at the New Designers expo show this year (2017) at the Business Design Centre in London.
During my degree course at Falmouth University, I found my style developing towards lino cut and relief printing. I use this style in a variety of different ways, often portraiture, but not exclusively. What I like the most about relief printing and the use of lino and wood is that, whilst it’s a very old way of mark making, it works very well with modern subjects and the use of digital media applications to create something fresh and interesting. It’s a very bold and graphic style, which can be used in simple two-tone pieces, such as black and white, or in ‘reduction prints’ where layers of colour are applied on top of each other.
My artwork so far has been focused in the Illustrative fields that intrigue me most: editorial, packaging and advertising. However, as a very new designer, I’m open to opportunities, so watch this space to see my work develop!
