About me
My name is AP:42. This name is a symbol of many things for me, but the most prominent is that it is a timestamp I created to document my pieces. I create abstract art because it allows me to express in my own way. I have a condition known as, Aphantasia, which does not allow me to visualize ideas in my head. This condition makes it difficult for me to plan out what I will produce, which in turn leads to unique creations. Music is my remedy for this because it provides me with sensations and feelings that guide my hand. This allows me to blindly experience the finished compositions like people who view my art for the first time do. Although I have recurring characters, patterns, and symbols that have allowed me to develop a story subconsciously, I prefer to keep my understanding and messages to myself. It’s interesting to see what people come up with on their own when explaining what they are viewing. It creates room for various perspectives and to see how ideas correlate. Going forward I would love to collaborate with musicians and other artists to create virtual experiences, allowing people to see the process, and thought patterns that go along with making the artwork. My hope is that through these performances it will provide people with moments of respite and to inspire individuals to join along and pick up whichever artistic medium they enjoy most.
Projects
  • Dreamland Art Exhibition
Dreamland Art ExhibitionI was one of the featured artists in the Dreamland Art Exhibition that took place at One Art Space in NYC. This was my first gallery show and although it was intimidating, it turned out to be an amazing show filled with amazing artists. Although I only managed to sell one piece, I am excited for what the future holds as I prepare for my next show in September.
  • Macro Magazine Autumn 2020 Issue: Black Lives Matter
Macro Magazine Autumn 2020 Issue: Black Lives MatterI was asked to create two illustrations for Macro Magazine's Autumn 2020 Issue, centering on the Black Lives Matter movement. It was an incredible experience and has been my first artistic feature in a magazine.
