About me
An interdisciplinary artist with a background in sound art, dance, and painting, I am interested in creating multisensory installations that transport their audience to a liminal, in-between world of contrasting sensations and shadows. I have a broad approach to making work, which can include large, textural canvasses of layered paints and embedded objects spilling out onto each other; butoh-inspired performance as immediate expression; and improvised soundscapes of extended vocal techniques, theremin, electric violin and guitar, synthesisers, and field recordings. I am always seeking new avenues to explore, new methods to absorb, and new ideas to feed my constant curiosity. Running parallel to all other work is my current major project. Entitled Corpus Alkimia: Ritual and Transformation Reflected Through the Body, this is a cumulative durational piece I began in late 2020, incorporating the rituals of strict bodybuilding training and nutrition as a means of overall transformation. Through this project, I plan to draw comparisons with the principles of alchemy while investigating the junction where intention, discipline and outcome meet, using my own body as the primary medium.
Projects
  • Garden of Black and Red Agonies, 2023
Garden of Black and Red Agonies, 2023“I am accused. I dream of massacres. I am a garden of black and red agonies. I drink them, Hating myself, hating and fearing. And now the world conceives Its end and runs toward it, arms held out in love.” Sylvia Plath - Three Women: A Poem for Three Voices, 1962 A video installation concerning the fallout of childhood r*pe and its devastating effects on one's relationship with the body. Motherhood was never an option for me; the choice was taken away by one single night of violence.
  • Love Letter For Oblivion, 2022
Love Letter For Oblivion, 2022Video from scraps of footage filmed for a lighting test, with live improvised sound recorded directly into Premiere Pro, and a stream-of-consciousness text written for no one in particular. Was shown at Southwark Park Galleries' 38th Annual Open Exhibition and selected as one of the nine Highly Commended works by judges Lydia Blakeley and Appau Jnr Boakye-Yiadom.
  • Stranger, 2022
Stranger, 2022Originally a blog post with an audio description and three gifs of my eye stretched open, this piece began as a free-flowing written work about the sensory disconnect I often have with my body. After being selected by the artist Jonathan Armour for a show he was curating at Bermondsey Project Space, I adapted the post into two separate video works: one in portrait orientation for showing in the gallery, and one in landscape orientation for viewing online. The latter is shown here.
