I am an experienced author and editor, specialising in children's books. I have written more than forty books for children, about everything from art to outer space. I've also edited and contributed to many other books for children, young people and adults.Locked Pro Plan feature
Since November 2017 I have moved away entirely from in-house work into freelance writing, editing and creative consultancy. I have worked with publishers including Hachette, Thames & Hudson, Quarto and Laurence King on a wide range of projects.
I managed large-scale active literacy projects across the UK, encouraging children to read for enjoyment. I also created printed resources, online content and development reports to support the programme.
I created and managed resources, websites and email campaigns to support the national Children and Young People programme and to inform other professionals and the general public.
I developed a number of original children’s books, including the award-winning and highly acclaimed titles Why Is Art Full of Naked People? (Susie Hodge), The Big Book of Bugs (Yuval Zommer) and This Book Thinks You’re a Scientist (in partnership with the Science Museum). I also managed a large number of freelance writers, illustrators, designers and other contributors to create books and other projects.
I developed educational books and interactive digital projects for a number of publishers, including Cambridge University Press, Hachette and Collins, on subjects ranging from science and maths to history and language learning.
I produced the weekly Time Out Travel e-mail newsletter, edited features for the website and carried out fact-checking and research for travel guides.
I edited English translations of articles, prepared website content, carried out research, assisted with image selection and liaised with interviewees.
