About me
Alistair likes to refer to himself in the third person. He lives parallel lives between the United Kingdom, where he crews for Spielberg, PT Anderson, & Michael Bay, and Australia, where he crafts his own film & podcasting works. A 2016 Tropfest finalist with his film, Waste of Time, filmmaker Alistair Marks, or "The Movie One" as his senile relatives refer to him, runs a multi-platform video & music production company, Marks Brothers Production. Clients include WWE, Foxtel, MTV Australia, The 7pm Project, and Nickelodeon. Alistair is a graduate of Swinburne’s Bachelor of Film & TV. His first major short film, SHOTGUN!, which he wrote and directed, won Best Director & Best Comedy at the 2010 New York International Film Festival, with his follow up short, Joshua, also winning awards internationally. Alistair directed the Network 10 documentary Love Your Sister which documented Samuel Johnson’s epic unicycle ride around Australia. He has also worked with MTV, Nickelodeon and The Project. In 2015 he wrote and directed the comedy pilot, Sweatshop, which is currently in development to series. Alistair also hosts the top rated podcast, Coming Up Next (www.comingupnext.com.au), where he speaks with top creatives about following their dreams. In 2016, he launched an online course called BossPods, where he, along with industry professionals including Samuel Johnson, teach business owners, entrepreneurs, and creatives how to significantly boost their profile, while creating exciting new opportunities, through podcasting (like a boss).
Projects
  • Love Your Sister - Documentary
Love Your Sister - DocumentaryOn February 15, 2013, Samuel Johnson set out on an epic unicycle quest around Australia, all for his sister, Connie. Connie has fought cancer three times in her life and Samuel has been with her every step of the way. This time things are different. Connie is dying and she doesn’t have much time left. Faced with the fight of her life, she set Samuel the toughest challenge she could think of. It started as a joke in the kitchen. It turned into a promise. The goal? To set a new World Record for the most distance travelled on a unicycle, to raise $1 million for the Garvan Research Foundation and to spread Connie’s message of breast cancer awareness - Don't Fall Into The Booby Trap, Be Breast Aware. Samuel consulted all the experts, took none of their advice and set off on the challenge of a lifetime. He made a promise and was determined to keep it!
