Typography

University College London

Mar 2014 - Mar 2014
  • Typography is the visual component of the written word. A text is a sequence of words and it stays the same no matter how it's rendered. A text stays the same no matter how it’s rendered but making choices over the style of typography brings different interpretation and understanding in the reader. CONTENT: - Explore basic elements of typography, the principles for their effective and creative use. - Choosing typefaces and how to maximise their potential for delivering a strong message - Identifying the assorted typographic voices which surround us everyday. - Strategies for working with different kinds of texts, from looking at content analysis to finding inspiration in the richness of language itself. - Ways to give your work authority, through use of structure. The course also included a session using the Central Saint Martins' letterpress facilities.
