    The key to successful programming is understanding who your audience is, why they might come and how they may want to feel experiencing a film. I recently completed an online course on strategic audience development, which looked at a wide range of different audience types and the principles you support when writing an audience development plan. I gained great insight from different industry experts about specific audiences including young, BAME, disabled audiences, audiences who may require special needs, older audiences and different kinds of screenings. We looked at ways to make different audiences feel safe and comfortable within a space. As well as core principles and data about how you know who attends screenings is key to understanding audiences. That information is collated and then used in the marketing approach.
