Without really knowing it I have been designing since I was a child.
I grew up in a small town beside the ocean. I was completely aware of my surroundings and how nature was so important to me. I have always felt free when in nature, taking in every shape, colour and texture. Combined with my love for the classical arts, both dance and music, at a very young age I formed a sensibility and a visual imagination that helped shape the designer I am today.
After receiving my interior and furniture design degree, I knew I wanted to design many things, not just interiors. I do believe that a good designer should be able to design anything using the same principles. Having a very conceptual mind, originality has come naturally to me in my work. Working both in high level architectural and interior design studios, my concept design has always grabbed the attention of both colleagues and clients.
Interior design introduced opportunities to create surface patterns, prints, illustrations, branding, graphics etc. and I knew this was something I wanted to pursue. My designs for these are based on conversations and places I have explored. These come freely to me and I allow the story to unfold to form this type of 2D design. The layers of colours and shapes form a visual language that can be the backdrop to home decor, stationery, identity branding, and many other aspects of our day to day lives.
Using my sensibility and visual imagination throughout my work I aim to bring a calm and elegant finished result, and I believe this can evolve into many areas of design. I do find I say it best while expressing myself with shapes, colours and textures. They are usually layered with lots of thoughts and emotions. I believe that the basis of interior and graphic design is very similar and I enjoy exploring these links.
With a wide range of architectural and graphic programmes under my belt and my conceptual originality, I feel I am a well rounded designer exploring many avenues of design with a creative colourful mind.
Projects
- Escape..........the chaosThe essence of this collection is based on the light from morning to night. As the sun enters and leaves the environment, our character evolves. Escape begins in nature for me. To escape one’s chaos is to indulge in what nature provides you with. To feel the earth below your feet, the ocean through your skin and the sun on your face is to escape the chaos.
