As a key member of the London atelier design team, I worked alongside the Senior Print Designer involved in all aspects of the design and print process and also working closely with other members of the design team. My responsibilities included: • Analysing trends to create mood boards for design stories each season. • Creative research to source inspiration and to develop artwork ideas. • Creating innovative prints from scratch produced either from samples or my own original hand drawn and painted designs paying close attention to detail and placement on the garment. • Designing embellishment and embroidery artwork, including knit jacquards, using hand drawn designs and beading techniques • Use of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to build artworks and create tech packs • Precise colour matching and finalising of lab dip standard for prints and artworks • Working closely with the cloth department and factories to maintain the quality and colour match of the prints
I worked in partnership with the print designer creating original designs as well as adapting existing artwork, which I helped select from print design studios. I incorporated my own hand drawings and re-coloured and edited artwork using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. Responsible for creating colour palettes and concept boards from my own research; effectively communicating these ideas at design meetings to contribute to the direction of the design team. I had the opportunity to work autonomously and liaise with all departments on design and concept, print placement, fabric selection and editing the print collection from concept to production. My own original designs were used for DKNY PURE and mainline S/S ‘14 collections.
I monitored media references to Tom Ford, helped select looks from current and past collections to send out to magazines for photo shoots and also orangised VIP looks and their delivery to celebrity clients.
I accompanied the team to Paris to present the collection to international buyers.
I worked in the design studio as part of the pattern cutting team where my duties included toiling and construction, pattern cutting, creating fabrications, hand finishing garments and assisted with fittings. I had to work under pressure and manage my time effectively. As part of the production team I helped with all aspects of shipping and costing. I was also able to develop strong leadership skills during London Fashion Week, organizing and dressing models and ensuring running orders for their catwalk show.
