About me
Angie Packer – Designer/Maker
I am a metal and glass designer/maker. This current work has been influenced by many visits to Venice, the unique and water-based city that has attracted artists throughout centuries. The use of metal within this project is inspired by the ornate fretwork and stonework that are constant features of the city.
I often combine glass and metal, each material maybe evident in the final piece or more frequently metal items are used to form an impression in the glass during the making process and appear in the finished work only as a ‘ghostly’ form.
My work is instinctive and often my ideas only emerge as I work with the glass in the hot shop environment. Experimentation and freedom to explore glass is key to my practice. Glass has a fluidity giving me creative freedom, a material that is almost alive; in contrast, metal requires a more formal approach. I love the difference between these materials and the diverse working methods constantly excites and challenges me to produce innovative work.
I believe that interacting with other artists on community-based projects would enhance my practice and artistic development. I am particularly interested in opportunities to collaborate and I look forward to sharing skills and ideas with artists, makers and the community.
