Dr Ao Chen holds a PhD in Film from the University of Southampton in the UK. His animated short films Red (2019) and Black (2020) were officially selected for the 43rd and 44th Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France and multiple other Oscars- and BAFTA-qualifying film festivals.

I taught the MA (Level 7) module "Post-classical Film Theory: Film History, Reception, and Cinephilia" at the University of Southampton where I helped the students meet learning outcomes by guiding them to understand multiple theoretical frameworks and methodological approaches to cinematic production and reception and to engage with a variety of culturally and historically specific contexts of film interpretation.
