About me
As an award-winning Métis filmmaker born in Calgary, on the doorstep of the Canadian Rockies, Apolla Echino is dedicated to creating high quality films about underrepresented stories, with the vision of a day where everyone can see a themselves in mainstream media.
Based in Rockaway Beach, NYC, she is an avid winter surfer and has carved out a meaningful career telling stories of Indigenous Peoples, women and our LGBTQ+ community. As a filmmaker, her goal is to contribute to creating a world where diverse stories are the norm.
Projects
- "Surfing the South Island of New Zealand - Winter"Filmmaker Apolla Echino was tired of seeing men get to have all the fun in adventure films and is on a one-woman mission to change that around. Her documentary series, A Woman’s Guide To The World, has taken her aboard a tall ship sailing to Antarctica and into the wildest corners of the Amazon jungle. But it’s the latest chapter, a wintertime surf trip across the stunning South Island of New Zealand that has attracted hundreds of thousands of viewers from across the globe.
