I am a documentary filmmaker whose work utilises observational and essay forms. I find the formation of identity and one's sense of belonging ever interesting. As such, I’m especially attracted to individuals and communities who are in a process of coming to terms with the spaces in which they exist.
I am a self-shooter and editor, who is keen to collaborate.
Projects
- NseneneA collaboration with music producer emāenuel, we react to one another's work throughout the process, passing our edits back and forth till we have a finished piece. Exploring adventure through texture, the unknown through the familiar, Nsenene utilises my clan’s totem to explore my heritage. Our reactions allows us to explore our connection to one another, whilst simultaneously exploring our own origins. Ethnographic and Documentary Film (Practical) MA - Distinction
Whilst at UCL I was able, with a camera in hand, to explore identities, cultures and origins through people’s stories. I produced, shot, and edited a short doc, Nsenene pt.2, in Uganda. It explored heritage and belonging (myself being half Ugandan), home and place, and was screened at the Bertha DocHouse. The experience and skills gained were invaluable: working to deadlines; dealing with unforeseen challenges; creative collaboration - these were all key to a successful project. From research to shoot, the process of presenting a story is one which I enjoy. I was able to learn Premiere Pro, and since have been developing my editing skills with personal projects. These projects have also allowed me to dabble with After Effects, and even Blender.
