My name is Arnelle Woker and I am an illustrator and surface pattern designer. After completing my BA Information Design degree at the University of Pretoria in South Africa, I lived in Johannesburg and pursued graphic design and animation. Two years later I moved to Cape Town where I rediscovered my love of illustration. After spending five years in the creative industry I moved to London where I have been ever since.
My South African roots play a large part in inspiring my use of colour and pattern. I love drawing people and often depict women. A lot of my work centres around empowerment, diversity and body positivity. This can be seen in some of the more recent patterns and portrait illustrations I’ve created.
When I launched my stationery range 2 years ago, I was hoping to offer something fun, contemporary and relatable. The simplicity of the greeting cards and wrapping make it versatile and allow you to use them for multiple occasions. I work exclusively with UK printers to create beautiful everyday items with an emphasis on quality and sustainability.
I am working on expanding my range to include fabrics, homeware and clothing!
Projects
- Superhero QuizzI worked with the ONE Campaign to create a squad of life-saving superheroes. Their mission is to save lives around the world by fighting preventable diseases. AIDS, TB and malaria can be defeated. The more people who learn about the fight, the more lives could be saved. After taking the quiz, you can share your superhero status and ask your friends to join in too!
