I am a freelance journalist and editor, writing mainly on architecture, urbanism, design and sustainability. I have extensive experience writing long-form feature articles, as well as shorter news, content and editorial pieces. My work has been published by The Guardian, The Atlantic and The Architects' Journal, among others. With nearly 3 years experience working as a freelance editor for publications including The Guardian and the Urban Times, I work to tight deadlines, have a keen eye for detail and know what makes a good story – be it a feature on Moscow's Constructivist architecture, a news piece on urban resilience in Lagos, or a product-based editorial piece for a heritage fashion brand. I have worked across news, fashion, architecture and design sectors, and am currently looking for freelance editorial, copywriting, advertising or communications roles. Twitter @athlynck
My freelance work at The Guardian includes researching and commissioning writers for potential content, editing copy to a meticulous standard and style, producing long-form investigative feature articles, as well as shorter news pieces.
I work on a number of community participation projects with design practice Make:Good, where I'm involved in engaging communities to bring about bottom-up neighbourhood change. I also write a monthly article for the practice.
Assisting the Architects’ Journal’s news editor in reporting on stories on architecture, design, national housing and construction policy, urbanism and conservation.
My work included overseeing the practice's communications and marketing strands, securing press coverage in several publications, including The Architects' Journal, Dezeen, TimeOut and several interior design magazines. I also provided the copy for LGA's redesigned website, as well as designing and implementing community engagement plans for project work with Peabody Housing in Lee, South London.
Urban Times is an online magazine dedicated to sharing stories on culture, politics and science from writers worldwide. Beginning as a regular contributor to the platform, I moved up into the role of Editor of the site’s Cities and Built Environment section after just 6 weeks at the magazine. This involved researching and commissioning key writers and thinkers to develop the site’s readership. I also established partnerships with international organisations and universities, as well as developing corporate sponsorship backing from Philips and Siemens. My articles for Urban Times were featured in The Guardian’s ‘City Links’ section on several occasions.
The ‘Future of Cities’ project takes a long-term look at how UK cities can best contribute to economic growth over the coming decades, taking into consideration wellbeing, equity and social inclusion which are all vitally important for cities and their citizens. My role is to report on the proceedings of expert panel meetings in cities across the UK, compiling written and visual summaries of the meetings and city visits.
