  • Pioneering Places workshops
Pioneering Places workshopsExploring a child-led process with Year 3 pupils at Ramsgate Arts Primary School, centring on Ramsgate Harbour. I worked with a small delivery team to create weekly workshops informed by the children’s interests. Over the course of the school year, this evolved to become a collaboration with the children, pushing ideas of art, the place they live and how it is experienced.

I’ve been given part of the art room of Bexhill Academy to make work both alone and in collaboration with students. The aim of the residency is to inspire and challenge students who use the space, giving them a present source of inspiration separate from their own work and research. So far I have made ceramic bowls for a pop-up restaurant in Zurich; lead a Bronze Arts Award program; and worked on a series of paintings.

Pioneering Places in Thanet is an ambitious child-led project focusing on the creative re-generation of Ramsgate. Every week we developed creative workshops which were based on the evolving interests of a class of year 3 students. These workshops were designed to facilitate thoughts and actions towards the making of place and art. Throughout the project I worked with a delivery team consisting of myself, a heritage researcher and a(n extremely wise) facilitator!
