About me
I take my personal development very seriously and I am extremely keen to broaden the skills I have developed, during my time at UAL and eager to learn new techniques in the professional workplace. In my spare time, I join adobe software classes enables me to put what I have learnt in my classes into my briefs set by lectures and will help me further when working in the industry. I am passionate about further developing my skills and gaining an insight into the creative industry, particularly the consumer packaging goods and graphic design. I believe further experience in this field will enable me to progress in my professional career following my degree as UAL and prepare me for further creative opportunities beyond education. I am keen to grow my portfolio and skillset in the industry by working on live projects that challenge me and allow me to put my theory learning into practise. I have been previously selected to work on a live brief with property developers L&Q in Waltham Forest to create and launch a new property development site. I worked on a community art project and was elected out of eleven people, I believe my work was very unique from the I explored with scale, colour and typography to create a successful billboard poster to reflect cultural dynamism and local iconography. I gained a huge insight about the community and how art and design play a huge part is community development and expression. In my second year I am currently working on a live brief from a brand called Food Behind Bars Food behind bars are the UK’s only registered charity dedicated to transforming the food served in British prisons. We work with prisons about food to improve the lives of those eating it and support the people making it. Our aim is to positively impact of health and the wellbeing of prisoners, by delivering practical food-based education, promoting healthy eating, and designing exciting food and drink initiatives I have been working in a group with student from various other creative courses, this has been interesting thus far to understand and learn about the various approaches to the project brief. We have been given a project brief to create a new visual identity that positions the FBB brand as a leading charity within its field. Breaking the boundaries of the expected corporate visuals that are common within the sector to create an engaging, emotive brand, that reflects the pioneering nature of FBB. We are currently working together to create a Logo, Typography, Colour palette, illustration, and mini guidelines to fit the brand guidelines. I am enjoying the collaborative process of this project and the opportunity to work with fellow creatives to develop ideas to present back to the brand. I am driven to work on more creative briefs within the industry and learn more from experienced professionals in the creative arts sector. Further work experience in the industry will teach me new skills beyond theory practise exposing me to important workspace methods and techniques. Furthermore, I will gain an abundance of transferable skills to aid me in my final year or prepare me for further high education learning such as a master’s degree. There is no better way of leaning than putting theory into practise and learning from fellow peers and this DPS is a great opportunity to take advantage whilst I am still learning at university. A year out in industry practise is significantly important and will support me as a steppingstone to start out in my professional career. This opportunity will allow me to grasp first-hand experience, skills developments and learning from graduates and seniors within this creative field. I would like to work within a charity or initiative to support an important cause that makes a difference or impact to those that need it such as homelessness, mental health, or the health sector such as the NHS etc. I am also interested in packaging design so working within a branding agency with creative directors, artists, photographers, and programmers which will provide me with interesting and challenging briefs to adapt my thinking and theory learning. Another industry that I have seen thrive over the years is the advertising sector and I’m keen to explore what happens behind the scenes and how project teams develop concepts, mood boards and ideas into designing and curating award-winning adverts such as the Christmas adverts, we are seeing more brands create and showcase each year. In addition, for one of my projects this year is to make a advert for the brand M&S, it’s been effortful there has been some highs and some lows and many changes to my ideas but overall, has been rewarding once putting all of the clips together. Social media is ever-growing, and more platforms are being used by brands daily, so I am keen to support brands and clients with devoting content ideas and storytelling to communicate with their audience and this gain awareness and further following.
