About me
Started in promos, commercials and titles, before developing my VFX skills base. Going on to develop as an Online Editor completing complex programmes which require VFXs throughout an episode. I have been working as an Editor in the industry now for 20 years. As well as onlining complete Scripted series I also deliver 2D VFX for individual shots for other programmes. Over the years I have onlined and completed VFX work on a wide variety of programmes and some films. I am currently using Autodesk Flame for Online and VFX work. I use Avid Media Composer to deliver programmes ready for AS11 delivery. In the past I have used Avid DS Nitris and Quantel Henry. Occasionally clients will call on me in the pre production stage with questions on how they might shoot a scene. I'm often invited to meetings in the offline stage to come up with solutions to problems which fit within time and budget. Clients I work with include Avalon, Baby Cow, Big Talk, CPL, Happy Tramp, King Bert, Me & You Productions and Merman.

  • Off Their Rockers Series 1-2
Off Their Rockers Series 1-2Full post production on 6 x 30 min hidden camera prank show starring a group of naughty pensioners. Dave McGrath mixed the series on Pro Tools 10 HD. As a hidden camera show, the perpetrators were on concealed microphones but the victims weren’t meaning McGrath had to balance the mix to hear everyone clearly. This was especially challenging when the perpetrators went naked! Thomas Holborrow onlined in Avid Symphony and Perry Gibbs graded the series using Digital Vision’s Nucoda Film Master.
  • Mr Sloane
Mr SloaneFull post production on 1 x 60 min and 5 x 30 min series for Sky Atlantic. Created by and starring some of the finest talent from both on and off screen, bittersweet romantic comedy Mr. Sloane's titular character is a buttoned-down 1960's man in crisis. Between his failed attempts at marriage, career success and even suicide, it's fair to say that 1969 isn't shaping up to be Watford-dweller Mr. Sloane's year. But with a potential job opportunity on the horizon and the phone number of a prospective new love interest following a chance encounter in his local hardware store, could Mr Sloane's luck be about to change? Sonny Sheridan graded the series with the Nucoda Film Master, Barney Jordan onlined the series with DS Nitris and Nick Fry mixed the audio with Pro Tools 11.

Bex Murray and Mark Refern offlined and Tim Ellison and Steve Dix onlined the series.
  • Downton Abbey Series 1-5
Downton Abbey Series 1-57 x 60 Minutes 1 x 90 Minutes The series, set in the fictional Yorkshire country estate of Downton Abbey, depicts the lives of the aristocratic Crawley family and their servants after the post-Edwardian era — with the great events in history having an effect on their lives and the British social hierarchy in general. Such events depicted throughout the whole series include the news of the sinking of the RMS Titanic in the first series; the outbreaks of World War I, the Spanish influenza pandemic, and the Marconi scandal in the second series; and the Interwar period and the formation of the Irish Republic in the third series. Picture and audio post production on 8 x 60 min and 1 x 90 min Christmas Special for ITV 1. Maggie Smith, Hugh Bonnerville and Elizabeth McGovern return for the fourth series of Downton Abbey. As they face new challenges, the Crawley family and the servants who work for them remain inseparably interlinked. Throughout the great house new arrivals rattle the established hierarchies, and the lives of the inhabitants are as shaped by romance, ambition, desire, shocks and heartbreak as ever. Aidan Farrell graded the ITV 1 drama on the Nucoda Film Master. In the fourth series of Downton, one of Farrell’s main objectives was to create a seamless transition between footage shot at Highclere Castle and the studio. Furthermore, the use strong practical lights meant that Farrell had to protect the highlights of these lamps and also of the details found in the windows. With heavy tracking and painting, Farrell was able to highlight the detail in each lamp. Shot on the Alexa, Farrell was able to retain more detail in the black and shadow areas. For example, he was able to instil great contrast in the male characters costumes and add more details to the black. For instance, he was able to impart a great punch to the male characters’ costumes (predominantly black), and yet not lose the fine details of the collars, cuffs and buttons. Moreover, huge attention to detail was spent on the cosmetic attributes of the female characters, adding to the beauty of the series. With a glossy, saturated grade Farrell was able to create a print-like texture that gives Downton its cinematic appearance. Clyde Kellett completed the online in DS Nitris and Nigel Edwards mixed the series in Pro Tools 10.
  • Britain’s Got Talent Series 1-8
Britain’s Got Talent Series 1-8Full post production on the seventh series of the nationwide talent search. More than 7,000 hours of HD multi-camera footage was edited across 10 Avid suites. Matt Jeffreys, Rich Wilson, Jamie Shemeld and Patrick Owen then graded and onlined the series utilising Avid Symphony DX Nitris systems, with addition of Sapphire and Boris plug-ins to highlight the diverse acts and produce stylised effects. Jack Meadows, Dave Zarpack and Alastair McCleave mixed audio from 49 separate microphones using multiple Avid V10 Pro Tools HDX systems. The challenge for Zarpack, Meadows and McCleave was to mix a series with a variety of audio sources. However, with the use of Avid D-Command control surfaces and Genelec monitoring, The Farm’s audio team were able to create a balance, vibrancy and consistency within the program.

Online and VFX EditorThe Farm Group
    London, United KingdomFull Time
On joining The Farm Group I developed my VFX skills working on a wide variety of genres including scripted comedy, drama, documentary, film, entertainment and music. I then broadened my experience taking on programmes with complex onlines as well as VFX throughout. A ‘one-stop shop’ if you like. I have worked with clients such as King Bert, Baby Cow, Big Talk, CPL, Happy Tramp, Me & You Productions, Merman and Avalon. Occasionally I will visit the set to talk through a shot with the director and discuss what they want to achieve. The variety of projects I work on continues to grow. I work mainly on Flame and occasionally on Avid and Nuke. These days, I complete onlines on entire scripted series as well as 2D VFXs on individual shots. I still consider myself the lucky one as I thoroughly enjoy what I do, continuing to build on my experience and abilities. Coming full circle, when a Runner shows the initiative to get ahead I’m there to encourage, support and cheer them on 100%.
