A third year history student looking to enter the events and marketing industries.
I helped run and plan a variety of community outreach events with the Canterbury Journey team. Key skills learnt/improved: - Public engagement and Interpersonal Skills: Encouraging people walking past to try out the activities we had on offer and interacting with the people taking part. - Teamwork: Working within a small team to organise and run the event. - Interviewing: I sat in, and helped interview, a potential new volunteer for the Cathedral. - Research: Researching the event before creating a relevant activity. This also included sourcing relevant materials and the information needed for the events information sheet.
I was given an all-rounded insight into the digital marketing industry, gaining experience in the following areas: - Content Writing (Writing articles and website copy, uploading it using programmes such as Umbraco) - Outreach - SEO Optimisation - AdWords (including data analysis in Microsoft Excel) - Organic and Paid Social Media (creating campaign calendars and uploading them using Sprout Social) - Competitor Research This required the ability to learn tasks quickly, have a can-do-attitude, work in a team, manage my time and think creatively.

- Duties include creating meeting agendas, taking minutes in meetings, booking rooms, answering queries through Facebook and email and sending out our weekly email and monthly newsletter. - Requires organisational skills to ensure rooms are booked in time and that agendas and emails are sent out in time. - I introduced the use of the email marketing software, MailChimp, vastly improving our former emailing system.
