The project was a Short Animated History of Britain's Gypsies, Roma and Travellers. My role was to design the style, storyboard, and animate the film, based on the provided script. The film is posted on the Traveller's Times website and their YouTube Page.
Through my online portfolio, I was sought out to animate a Christmas E-card for a company based in the Derby area. The deadline was tight as it was needed before the Christmas Holiday. The animation was created using Adobe Illustrator and Animate, and had to be embeddable in the company’s website.
I was commissioned to create an animation for Random Acts; a Channel 4 project where young people in the West Midlands are given a budget to create a film or animation for their website and to possibly be broadcast on television. I gained more experience with working with the team at Rural Media, handling a budget, and creating a piece of work that was innovative and lined up with broadcasting standards in the UK. My animation was successful in being selected for their online platform.
We had to respond to the subject of Duffield Castle and create something related to its ruins. I decided to have the castle stones come together to rebuild it. The animation was featured in a small exhibition in the Duffield area in Derby.
Animation Students across the UK created films based on the real excuses that people have given for not paying their TV License. The content had to be funny, simple, and child friendly. I won 2nd Place in the Judges Choice Award, and was interviewed on BBC Radio Derby about the competition and my entry.
We experimented with the latest digital software, produced distinctive animations and gained the professional awareness needed for a future career. I have completed live briefs which challenged us to cater our style and choice of content to a clients needs. Each semester only allowed for a certain amount of time to complete a number of projects, making me experienced in handling deadlines. I pitched my ideas to peers through storyboards, animatics, and style sheets in order to get feedback and improve.
We studied 8 disciplines within Art and Design: Life Drawing, Graphics, Illustration, Fashion, Textiles, 3D, Fine Art, and Photography.
