I'm a final year English student at Queen Mary, University of London. I graduate in July and am looking for a career in a creative industry, ideally in radio, TV, journalism, social media, publishing, marketing or music/theatre/art. Much of my experience and skills are based in radio, however I believe also have gained a lot of transferrable skills from work and university which could be applied to any of these industries. I'm extremely driven, hardworking and passionate with a keenness to learn and progress. I work well under pressure and thrive in busy environments which require me to multi-task and time manage. I have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as well as an eloquent and accomplished way of expression both in writing, and through speech. I'm extremely flexible in terms of working hours and am happy to work anti-social hours and overtime. I have can effectively research, process and analyse information quickly and efficiently, making me a very fast learner and giving me the ability to both follow instruction, and work independently. As a person, I'm confident, bubbly and extremely sociable which makes me a great team-player as I get on with people well and build strong social and working relationships. I'm keen to try new things, develop new skills and broaden my knowledge in a number of fields- I'd bring this passion and enthusiasm to progress to any role. My interests include literature and theatre, hence why I chose to study English Literature in London, the cultural capital in the UK. I'm also very passionate about film and television, having studied film at A-level, making and editing my own films, and doing work experience at Channel 4 in 2010. My biggest love is music though, I love playlisting, reviewing and sharing new music, particularly music belonging to electronic, dubstep, house and ambient genres.
I Write a weekly music review of a recently released album, such as Bloc Party’s Hymns and Mystery Jets’ Curve of the Earth, to be posted to the website. I also present a weekly chart show as part of a collaboration between W!ZARD radio and Spotify.
I conduct interviews with bands performing locally, which I then edit to be played on air and be uploaded to Mixcloud. I also contribute music reviews the station blog, Questfeed.
I called past alumni to update their education and career histories, as well as other personal details and interests on behalf of the alumni office. I gained valuable advice on career options as a graduate. I processed single and regular donations towards the annual fund over the phone. This money goes towards supporting student projects, scholarships and bursaries.
I covered the holiday of researchers in the planning uni at Radio 4. This involved inputting and updating data on music, theatre, TV, film and books on Planning Base. I also liaised between publishers, press contacts and Radio 4 producers to organise guests for interview and confirm press dates. I attended bids meetings alongside other researchers and producers to resolve clashes of interest in features and guests between programmes.
I inputted and updated information on Planning Base for books, television, theatre, music and film to be considered for features by Radio 4 producers. I attended press nights for upcoming TV releases, making note of plot-lines, cast and crew and whether the programmes would make suitable content for Radio 4. I was a client service runner for Last Word and Loose Ends, collecting guests for interview, catering to their needs and the needs of producers and studio managers. I also shadowed producers at Last Word, Loose Ends, Front Row, Woman's Hour, Midweek and The Film Programme.
I helped induct and train members and presenters at the station. I was responsible for the maintenance of the station's social media pages including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and the station's blog, Questfeed. I also liaised with PR companies to organise interviews and review new music. I would then edit and upload these interviews and reviews to the blog and Mixcloud.
I partook in a weekly news based recorded programme as a presenter, host or studio manager. In order to achieve the awards, I was involved in projects such as a pre-recorded radio feature on a music hero. This consisted of vox-pops, a scripted voice over recorded on Myriad Playout, and music. I then edited the feature on Adobe Audition. Through Reprezent, I also got the opportunity to plan and present my own show live on FM radio when covering for other more regular presenters at the station.
I conducted ward visits to take song requests and talk to patients. I worked as part of an on air team, helping to come up with features and structure the weekly show. I spoke fluently and professionally on air as a presenter.
I shadowed presenters, producers and other admin staff. I conducted interviews in the recording studio and over the phone. I prepared information of gigs and events around Reading for the weekly gig guide.
