  • Prank MusiCall - SRA Chart Show feature
Prank MusiCall - SRA Chart Show featureOne of my proudest moments in producing shows at Radio Sonar came when making features for our SRA Chart Show. The aim of this prank was to fit in as many of the previous week's Top 20 in to conversation with our Station Manager Abbie without her suspecting anything. James Court delivered my rough script in a way that perfectly suited his personality.

My personal responsibilities were to plug 2 singles to radio & blogs, which saw the band reach playlists on Amazing Radio, as well as a number of community & student stations local to them in Southampton. I was also responsible for getting them on to the Student Radio Chart show as their 'Hot Pick', in which their acoustic performance & interview was broadcast across almost every student station in the country. My role as Station Manager is demanding, with over 100 paid members contributing to our presenting, playlist, sports & news teams. I am responsible for informing an 11-strong committee, and to ensure that they are fulfilling their roles to the best of their abilities. As well as chairing committee meetings, I have also assumed the role of Head of Music, which has seen me chairing weekly playlist meetings. This has massively benefitted the social side of the society, and will put the station in a positive direction after I graduate.

This course has taught me a wide range of music industry-related skills, and has also heavily encouraged me to apply them to real-life situations. For example, the PR skills taught in my first year have led to me starting Curious PR with some of my fellow students. As well as this, the live music industries unit in second year gave me the skills to promote a gig for rising indie/rock bands Thyla & Beach Riot, both of which I had previously featured on my Radio Sonar show. The micro-industry that the music courses creates for students here is very unique, and I am hungry to apply my learning to even more real-world situations.
