About me
I am a young professional moving from the teaching profession to a career in writing/journalism. I studied English Literature at the University of Exeter, before completing my English PGCE, also at Exeter. I have worked full time at John Hampden Grammar School in Buckinghamshire, teaching English Literature and Language to boys aged 11-16, and while I have enjoyed the challenge I am now looking to move careers to something with more room for creative freedom and personal challenge. My degree and experience mean I am an excellent writer, reader, and speaker. My communication skills are fantastic, and I am able to work in a high-pressure environment with various teams. My organisation is thorough, and I never miss a deadline. My freelance and extracurricular experiences in music journalism showcase my writing talent, and a skill in engaging readers with concise, knowledgeable, though-provoking content.

At Exeter I studied a wide range of fascinating literature, ranging from Old English classics such as Beowulf all the way to contemporary post-modern works of the 21st Century. My studies have left me with a broad appreciation for literature of all types. Modules on 'Renaissance and Revolution' and Romanticism impressed upon me a love of Early Modern works, especially those of Marvell, Milton, and Keats. Modules on 'Surrealism in Literature and Film' and 'Literature and Anti-Literature' inspired a passion for 20th and 21st century works that stretch the possibilities of the media, including the films of Kubrick and Bunuel, the writing of Andre Breton, and the plays and prose of Samuel Beckett. I also had the opportunity to take several modules in Creative Writing, an opportunity I relished. For my dissertation in particular, I undertook an investigation into auto- and semi-autobiographical fiction, producing an essay on existing styles before writing my own 6,000 word piece. In addition to my studies, I was an active member of Pearshaped Exeter, a student-run music magazine. Over the course of my two year involvement with the magazine I wrote numerous album reviews, gig reviews and previews, and a fortnightly column on the best new music as it was released. It is this work that has given me the passion for, and confidence in, journalism of all disciplines. As well as receiving enthusiastic feedback, I greatly enjoyed every piece I wrote, and can see a long and successful career in journalism ahead of me.
