About me
Beth Alanna Gray-Witney is a highly-creative and curious multi-media textile designer and artist. She uses her imaginative and sensory creations as a medium through which to express feelings and communicate ideas. Having recently completed her degree in Textile Design, she has developed skills both in hand operated methods and modern technologies and software. As a result, her inquisitive approach often combines traditional methods and timeless subject matter with contemporary and forward-thinking approaches to material, process and function. In awe of the natural world and interested in subjects including biology, geography and philosophy, she explores and interprets such elements through a playful process of investigation, combining many materials and processes at once in the search for harmony between nature and technology, physical and intangible, old and new. Passionate about conscious design and promoting sustainability within a throw-away culture, she strives to use found objects and reclaimed materials, enjoying the challenges and possibilities this can provide. She is interested in how her work could fit within applications including exhibitions, fashion and costume design, jewelry, installation, editorial shoots and trend forecasting, considering the built environment and human body alike a canvas on which to explore her ideas. As a result, Beth has come to redefine textile design for herself, developing a style and creative process that is unique to her.
