Bethany Porteous is a British independent designer currently based in London, U.K. Her process welcomes lively inter-disciplinary play yet it is contextualized by functional typography and graphic design. London based events and bar operator, Mothership Group, are a long term client of mine. I work closely with the marketing co-ordinator to create visually striking and functional designs for website and digital channels. Regular events require print design for ad hoc collateral such as flyers, brochures and the occasional packaging.
The role of lead designer for NovaBatida required a varied skillset. I built a strong client relationship and developed a distinct visual identity along with branding guidelines for the festival. Other design duties included creating custom website design and numerous print and digital assets, along with liaising with the motion graphics team (Freak, London) to create video content.
I was approached by independent record label Stut Records to create full cover artwork and creative direction for exclusive releases on an ad hoc basis. Each project requires an exploration of both graphic design and illustration to create unique artwork. The label adheres to strict deadlines and it is necessary to have extensive knowledge of specific printing processes.
Nouvage commissioned a 20th anniversary brochure for Tete a Tete’s Opera Festival based in Kings Cross, London. Due to a specific briefing the role required a lot of research to translate conceptual ideas into engaging, visually rich, design solutions. I maintained the ability to work within brand guidelines whilst also considering unique interpretation.
