Bwalya Newton is a Zambian-born, London-based writer, DJ and the founder of women’s basketball team, Hackney Gazelles. The basketball team has been running for 4 years and has now started expanding to Glasgow, South London and Paris. She has been featured in varied publications and platforms such as, ELLE Magazine and ASOS, for her contribution to grassroots sports.
As a writer she has interviewed Kobe Bryant, Kendrick Lamar, and others for publications such as LAW, i-D, Brick Magazine and NIKE as well as curated and edited a zine championing the women of the Hackney Gazelles for Miami Art Basel. As a DJ, she co-hosted the night turned online show Gemini. She is a mainstay at artist Kareem Reid’s Body Party and regularly performs for Romance F.C., Mushpit, and Work It.
