Since May 2010 I have been working as a freelance designer, with a year long stint making this my full time job, and fitting it in between jobs outside of that. Projects spanned from brand identity, packaging, campaign and communication strategy, print media, front end web development and illustration.
Banjo gave me a new perspective on the design process as a Graphic Designer & Finished Artist. After introducing me to a large advertising agency environment in a more specific role I was able to appreciate the merits of each stage in a project. I learned technical skills that are rarely brushed over in tertiary study, and a peak behind the curtain of new departments and brilliant minds, it was a great experience and I loved every minute of it.
Uberbrand was a great step into the studio world; with some fantastic mentors and opportunities to work on large scale projects and illustration work. My time here was short but it didn’t go without a lot of lessons learnt and a kick of inspiration to drive me on to the next stage in my career.
I worked with Oxfam Australia’s Youth Engagement program as a volunteer for three months, and later as a freelance designer. I continued as a freelance designer. Here I created the print materials for some of the Youth Engagement programs such as Design For Change, Close The Gap, and other sections of the organisation including GROW.
ASM Liquor was an amazing experience, designing concept product packaging, re-branding products, and various print and web collateral. I saw the majority of these projects from start to finish and preparing them for print with both local and overseas suppliers and printers. Towards the end of my time with ASM Liquor I worked closely with design agencies and senior members of the company to re brand existing products and launch a new products, giving me invaluable insight into what’s involved in such large scale branding projects.
This course focuses on implementing new strategic approaches to a brief whilst gaining a greater understanding of client interaction, creative problem solving and idea generation. With an intimate class setting of 10 students, and the opportunity to work with some of the greatest minds in the industry, Tractor provides an invaluable level of learning and mentorship experience.
Billy Blue is renown for its excellent guidance in preparing its students for the industry. With experienced and talented lecturers and an emphasis on design thinking, this degree not only helped me develop the skills I need to proficiently use these design programs and execute a brief, but also taught me how to think like a designer and find unique and engaging solutions to design problems.
