About me
I am an extremely enthusiastic and passionate person who easily finds self motivation and joy through the practice of Architecture and the development of good Design. I believe in the importance and impact these things have in everyday life, and in a way that’s what led me to become an Architect. I have demonstrable experience in Portugal and in the UK, and am registered in the ARB. For the past three years I have collaborated with several teams to deliver the best possible solutions, rising to the challenges and obstacles that always come our way, by motivating myself and my peers to pursue meaningful results. Since I always worked in small sized teams I was very involved in all project stages from beginning to completion, which included a vast production of elements from conceptual images and models to detailing and construction packages. Working in the context of a group taught me what the value of my work as part of a team is. I learned how to listen and be kind to others, and to take leadership when of best interest. Having studied Architecture in Portugal made me take a big deal of interest in craftsmanship: I like to draw and to build with my own hands. This doesn’t mean I don’t see the value of using a computer, as Grace Hopper said, it “was the first machine man built that assisted the power of his brain instead of the strength of his arm.”
Projects
  • Tires, Portugal | private housing
Tires, Portugal | private housingThis project is an example of the expression of minimal space. While in GGLLatelier I had the opportunity to learn how to design small projects that make the most of its space. I worked in this project during the licensing phase, and later on on constructing planning. One of the main characteristics of GGLLatelier’s office was their choice for a bespoke design, from the general conception to the footers’ design. Since we were producing our own details I was made more aware of how things are buil
  • Lighting | LX Factory
Lighting | LX FactoryWhile in GGLL atelier I participated in the development of a few objects that ranged from furniture in general to lighting fixtures. These fixtures where developed to complement one of the pavilions of LX Factory. This is a reconverted factory in the heart of Lisbon that holds space for shops, Art galleries and cultural and private events.
  • Terrain Vague
Terrain VagueThe present photographs were conceived with the intention of exploring the presence and perception of empty spaces in the city – Terrains Vagues. The ever evolving city leaves us limited intervals to perceive this phenomena. In these intervals we can see what the city was and how the remains of the past pulverize has they loose their last inhabitants.
Work history
    Part 3 Architectural Assistant
     - London, United KingdomFull Time
In the beginning of 2016 I started to work in Atelier db, where I had the opportunity to developed a few medium size commercial projects. Among my primary functions are concept design, and the development of tender, construction and joinery packages. I’ve been working alongside architects that have a very technical approach to architecture, which helped me further develop my capabilities when it comes to detailing and coordinating with other specialities. The attendance to several CPD lectures and the mentorship I had also allowed me to acquire knowledge regarding materials and construction systems that I had never used before. I also had the opportunity to work closely with diverse technical teams and clients to deliver these projects.
    Part 2 Architectural Assistant
     - Lisbon, PortugalFull Time
Almost immediately after I completed the course, I was offered a position as an Architect in a former Professor’s office - GGLLatelier, a very detail oriented practice. While there I was able to further develop my capabilities in regard to construction matters and project phasing. Alongside a small team, I developed several projects from beginning to completion.

Education
    Erasmus Programme
     - Brussels, Belgium
On my fourth year I spent a semester studying in Brussels, which allowed me to travel and learn, giving me the desire to work abroad once I finished University.
    Master Degree in Architecture
     - Lisbon, Portugal
While in university I developed an array of projects that enabled me to understand architectural form and conception, as well as to develop personal interests and work qualities. The mentioned projects ranged from abstract exploratory projects to realistic developments, and even to the study of urban form and its relation with architecture. On the final year one had to submit a project proposal accompanied by a dissertation of a year’s worth of work and development. I chose to use my work to open a discussion about the city’s image and heterogeneity - which I predicted would be useful in my career - by submitting a whole body of work entitled “In The Impossible City - the eulogy of the ordinary”. During my defence for a Masters degree, the discussion presented itself wide and rich, since there was divergence in the way some members of the jury regarded the matter and my personal take on it. The final classification was 18 out of 20.
