A Welsh/Canadian/Mexican Carl W. Jones is a bilingual, multicultural “tradigital” communications professional, who is also a grad student. His content creation for clients has generated millions of dollars in earned media. He was the most awarded Art Director in the Mexican advertising industry, and Carl was selected as one of the Top 20 Canadian Creative Directors by Strategy Magazine. In total he has won over 500 awards and recognitions including Cannes Lions.
Jones’s PhD research at the Royal College of Art on “Decolonizing Advertising,” sets out to redefine the concept of advertising through his analysis of the political economy of race in Mexico, and its manifestation through the spectacle of advertising #visualActivist
Carl currently teaches Digital Media at the University of Westminster in London (UOW), and is a research member at University of Westminster’s Communication and Media Research Institute (CAMRI), a world-leading centre in the study of media and communication and renowned for its critical and international research.
Recently Carl gained a silver award in RCA’s first 3 minute thesis competition 2022. His papers on: Branding; Design; Advertising tools & Techniques; have been presented at global conferences, and published in a variety of languages.
Carl is also a research member at University of Westminster’s Communication and Media Research Institute (CAMRI), a world-leading centre in the study of media and communication and renowned for its critical and international research; Carl was guest issue editor for the WPCC media journal on Advertising for the Human Good; and is a member of the AAA American Academy of Advertising and on their Ad Hoc Committee for Diversity and Inclusion.
His latest investigation into 'Racism in advertising' has received over 7,000 shares on social media.
