Cat Finnie is a freelance illustrator living in London, UK. She enjoys creating colourful digital illustrations and often brings in an element of the surreal since she is drawn to things that have a dreamlike quality. Her influences include René Magritte, Leonora Carrington, Remedios Varo, Jorge Luis Borges, Hilma Af Klint, Tove Jansson, Angela Carter, Haruki Murakami, Gabriel García Márquez and Ursula Le Guin. Cat loves to work on editorial illustration, magazine covers, spot illustrations, and design for animation - amongst other things.
Projects
- Counterpoint Magazine - Sleep IssueCover illustration on the theme of Sleep for Counterpoint Magazine. I based this on the idea that sleep is related to mortality, in the sense that it's a form of oblivion and we don't know what lies on the other side of it. But it's also necessary to our lives and brings rejuvenation when we wake.
- Editorial illustration for LongreadsIllustration to accompany an article on Longreads - Muscle Memory: A Case History. The article tells the story of a woman who injures her back in a pole dancing class and follows her physical recovery while also examining her relationship to her body and how it has impacted her intimate relationships. The narrator navigates a healing process in which she learns to listen to herself, work towards greater self knowledge and, in so doing, make better choices. With thanks to Katie Kosma for her help
