About me
Following completion of a Bachelor of Arts in Innovation and Design in December 2018, I am seeking a position involving aspects of Design Management, Design Strategy, Design Research, User Research, User Experience, Service Design or Research & Development. A profound knowledge of Human-Centred Design and a Design Thinking mindset, combined with many years in hospitality and retail, have trained me to be socially aware, comfortable in ambiguity and able to thrive under pressure in a fast-paced environment. My identity has been moulded by having lived and been schooled in five different countries. Thus, the notion of novelty and inherent challenge is routine and perceived as alluring.

Independently co-managed Millstone Patisserie/Café for a month while Founder/Owner (Alice Wright) and General Manager were away during July 2018. Following Ms. Wright’s appearance on Masterchef AU at the end of July, this period coincidently saw a huge influx in foot-traffic into the Patisserie, making my first month of management both memorably challenging and rewarding. This position was my first out-of-school leadership role, learning first-hand how to “manage” (motivate, train, organise) 23 staff, customers, logistical aspects all while prioritizing the quality of our customers’ experience at Millstone.

The degree trained students to confidently embrace the ambiguous problem-solving space, learning how to undertake a holistic idea/concept development process; going through the phases of Define, Ideate, Prototype, Test and Implement. Paired with loops of iterations and challenging idea ‘pivots’. The course highlighted the importance and added-value of team-work. Entrepreneurial classes and Lean Start-Up Thinking were also core components of the curriculum. It invited students to challenge their problem space through rapid prototyping and testing with the constant involvement of the users; an essential ingredient for mitigating the risk of solving the wrong problem. During our final year, we completed a year-long industry project alongside the Australian Fashion Council.

The program catalyzed students’ development of managerial, people, entrepreneurial and leadership skills. We learned how to become creative problem solvers, gained the ability to see through complex situations, to empathize with others, to organize a workflow, to be bold and take the risk to venture forward, and to inspire others to collaborate and create. These skills are essential to managing teams and projects, and are crucial to developing solutions that matter.
