Hello, I'm Clara Rúa! I hold a degree in Industrial Design with a focus on Product Design from Elisava, Barcelona School of Design and Engineering, graduating in 2018. I'm passionate about the world of design, driven by an insatiable curiosity and an open mind.
Originally from Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain, I began my career in various roles, including working as an insurance agent for small and medium-sized businesses and gaining valuable experience in different retail environments and developing excellent skills in public relations and in sales. Later, I transitioned as a technician in optical laboratories and audiology, specialising in tasks such as lens cutting, bevelling, and glasses assembly and repair, and being a hearing aid specialist, conducting audiometries and creating custom ear molds for the production of hearing aids for my patients. My meticulous work in the optical and audiology field instilled in me a keen attention to detail and a commitment to precision. This diverse experience provided valuable insights and a well-rounded skill set that I carry with me in my design endeavors.
Inspired by my innate thirst for learning and the desire to explore new horizons, I found myself drawn to Barcelona, where I pursued studies in Java programming, and later, in web design, transitioning into a successful career as a freelance web designer while also working in a legal department for a decade.
In 2014, embracing the mantra 'It's never too late,' I followed my heart and returned to my true passion: Industrial Design. At university, I cultivated my natural talent for observation and discovered a deep-seated love for sustainable materials and how they can elevate design. Upon completing my degree, my thirst for knowledge and dedication to design excellence led me to continue perfecting various tools and techniques I had acquired during my university years. Additionally, I had the privilege of sharing my expertise by teaching Design and Luxury courses for the Master in Fashion & Luxury Business at the EU Business School in Barcelona.
Aside from my professional pursuits, I'm also a proud mother of twin daughters who are pursuing their own educational journeys in fields such as nursing, psychology, and biomedical engineering. Their dedication and curiosity serve as a constant source of inspiration in both my personal and professional life.
Currently, my primary role revolves around the design of high-end speakers for a new brand. I take pride in meticulously crafting these audio masterpieces, ensuring they not only deliver exceptional sound quality but also exemplify a harmonious blend of aesthetics and functionality. Additionally, I'm involved in various complementary aspects of the project, such as creating product catalogs, designing captivating showcases for trade fairs, implementing acoustic treatment solutions for listening rooms, and producing an array of promotional materials like roll-ups. This multi-faceted project allows me to channel my passion for sound design and innovation, aiming to deliver a one-of-a-kind audio experience.
My mission is to create beautiful designs that not only meet real needs but also contribute to a better world. I'm deeply passionate about design, not only for the end product but for the story behind each creation. Additionally, I find immense fascination in the intricacies of the manufacturing processes. These aspects allow me to infuse meaning and craftsmanship into my work, ensuring that every product I design carries not just functionality and aesthetics, but also a compelling narrative and a meticulous production journey.
