About me
Hi, please excuse I'm still editing my profile here - so a little incomplete right now - see my LinkedIn for full work history etc: https://www.linkedin.com/in/clarehyam/ I have been working as a User Interface/Front-end Developer for more than ten years. Having worked for many agencies and as a contractor, I am used to producing HTML, CSS and JavaScript for a range of different clients. I've also worked in accessibility/UX/UI related roles (including as an accessibility engineer for Apple). I would love to hear about contract (outside IR35 preferred) or freelance roles in Front-end Development, Accessibility, or User Research/User Experience in London (or remote). I love working for clients who: - are keen to surprise and delight their users - want a developer highly skilled in CSS and HTML with an eye on the visual design - value accessibility I recently finished studying my Human-Computer Interaction Design MSc at City, University of London, learning skills in Interaction Design, Information Architecture and Inclusive Design (amongst others). The course also allowed me to gain experience with different research methods and improve my qualitative research and analysis skills. I have also completed the Nielsen Norman Group's UX Certification (Interaction Design Speciality). As a front-end developer, I love to work on responsive sites and am used to working with CSS pre-processors like SASS and LESS and using approaches like BEM. I am confident in my JavaScript and have experience with various frameworks and libraries (React, JQuery etc.), but I'm happy to learn new ones for a role. I'm used to working with build systems (GRUNT, GULP, WEBPACK) and GIT as part of my workflow. I'm flexible and happy to adapt to different conventions and comfortable communicating with people across all disciplines. I strive to provide accessible solutions that work for all users and produce semantic HTML, using ARIA to add meaning to more complicated components where appropriate. I create sites that work cross-browser and across a range of different devices. As an accessibility consultant, I take a systematic approach to produce audits (mostly WCAG 2.1 AA) of websites and applications to check that products adhere to accessibility guidelines. Comfortable using a range of different assistive technologies including screen-readers (Voiceover on iOS/Mac, Talkback, JAWS, NVDA), I able to offer clear recommendations on how to resolve accessibility issues understandable to different audiences. My front-end skills help me quickly debug complex accessibility issues, create prototypes to test solutions, or support developers implement fixes.
