About me
I am a graduate from Grays School of Art. I studied Fashion and Textile Design and in my final year concentrated on menswear fashion design. I designed a six piece collection which was showed at the University’s fashion show. My dissertation topic focused on social media’s influence within the fashion industry.
After university I was offered a job in the visual team at Marks and Spencer’s. This was a great step after my fashion degree as I was able to continue to work in a fashion environment and stay creative. After 3 years of working as a VM, I was promoted to manager and have learned a lot since.
My current goal and next step is to move to London from Scotland.
I have a keen interest within the fashion Buying industry and currently away to undertake an online short course in Fashion Buying from UA:L.
Work history
Visual StylistMarks and Spencer
Edinburgh, United KingdomFull Time
Roles within the job include: Styling mannequins with current trends to reflect the grow customer. Being able to change sell outs to still reflect the grouping and compliment the colours and style.
I am also responsible for dressing all of the windows within the large high street store in the capital city. Dressing windows include all the decor, the fitting and upkeep of the backdrops and flooring and any other accessories they need to be implemented.
I am responsible for Woman’s wear within the shop, to make sure things are done and kept up to high standard. This includes decor, and making sure it reflects the area which it is in and updating as it is sent in.
The pros of working in this large retailer are the amount of mannequins and groupings within the store that I am able to dress and play with. This has given me lots of practise and experience being able to deeply understand colour and styling of groupings, and the positioning of mannequins to reflect what you are trying to sell.
Styling mannequins has helped me to understand how important visual merchandising within a store can help the sales and the customer journey. It helps them to visually be able to see how they could or would wear what’s shown on the mannequin. A fabulous outfit can be greatly represented with the correct footwear and accessories which helps with the sales of that item. This has been proven numerous times with outfits I have dressed, leading to sell outs of that item.
