About me
My work draws on my life experience growing up and living in inner city Bristol and latterly, London. I also draw on my Jamaican heritage. I create ceramic art that is provocative, subversive, playful and humerous. I gather my ideas by observing scenes and people in my neighbourhood. I sometimes channel my feelings about topical issues into my art.
I want to test interpretations of the present day, whilst producing tangible objects that contain a certain beauty and references a past.
Projects
- Heavy MetalExploring dereliction and regeneration. I was inspired by the rusty metal substructure of the pier at Hastings. The pier has an almost century long history of damage. World war bombs, storms, fire, sea and the elements have all inflicted their worst. At times the issue of whether it should be repaired was the subject of debate. The pieces in the collection show elements of destruction and repair, having been subjected to my own violent acts, as I took to them with my fists, fingers as well
