I am a designer who likes to get my hands dirty, get stuck into a project and create something; whether its physically making something or behind a desk. I try to take influences from all forms of life and the world around me. I believe that the message is always the most important element in any part of design from branding to a campaign. I see the role
of a designer is to create the perfect vehicle to deliver the message to the target audience.
Projects
- Branding BrailleThis project is designed to encourage the use of braille in people with sight difficulties through design by becoming the bridge between braille and the design world and giving Braille a typographic styling for the first time. Fewer than 1% of the two million visually impaired people in the UK are braille users, this causes around 66% of all visually impaired people to be unemployed as a result of some lack of literacy. Whereas unemployment rate for the visually impaired who use Braille has a significant drop of 44%. By applying my own typographic styling I am hoping to encourage the use of Braille to the visually enabled. As more people access this it will encourage use within the visually impaired community which will have the effect of reducing unemployment rates and low literacy skills. With more people with sight using this, it will encourage the use amongst the visually impaired helping the unemployment rate and low literacy skills within the visually impaired community. I was inspired to do this by watching the new Daredevil TV series from Netflix. Daredevil is a blind superhero and I thought it was strange that none of the advertising material was in Braille or focused towards the visually impaired.
