Autodidact, my approach to photography has always been intimate and organic – not to say visceral. I was born and raised in Napoli and moved to London in 2013, where I was seeking withdrawal. I started to compulsively capture moments, people: a street-reporting method that forged my initial photographic style. Inspired by diversity and inclusion, I promised myself to celebrate the ‘being’, the various selves that shape our society no matter their differences – or rather thanks to their differences. I have always been fascinated by the complexity and fragility of human nature. Stemming from different times, two artists have greatly inspired my work and vision. First, Caravaggio with his dramatic chiaroscuro and transgressive realism in the Renaissance times. Second, Martin Parr from whom I learnt to find beauty and poetry in the gritty, the unpopular, the unaesthetic, the diverse. Expanding on light and colours, I have later developed an interest in portraiture photography, which gave me the opportunity to shift from monochrome streets to close-ups, intimacy, the body as well as to site-specific settings and homes. In a nutshell, my work is devoted to shed light on the multiplicity of characters that inhabit the world; to explore sexuality, race, social classes; to investigate traditions in relation to our instinctive nature; to dig out the ‘weird’ and celebrate it.
