About me
Danielle Jacques is a visual artist from South London. She graduated from Camberwell College of Arts (UAL), with a distinction in MA Fine Art Digital in 2020. In 2020 Danielle received the Mercers' Arts Award and exhibited in 'London Grads Now' at the Saatchi Gallery. Danielle explores altered states of consciousness through photography, video, and audio-visual installation. She engages with the properties of ink, water, and light – dispersing, diffusing, diffracting, and embracing the unexpected – to develop a practice she describes as “meditation-in-action”. Through photography and film, she solidifies these visual meditations, so that she may elongate, interpret, and share her experiences. Informed by psychology and perception theory she is interested in the impacts of sensory stimulation upon how we perceive our inner and outer worlds. Photos and videos are pushed through multiple modes of transformation, using both analogue and digital processes – layering, reflecting, stretching, scaling, and looping – each process bringing new depths to her illusions which surprise and delight.

Workshop: 'Tremendous Tetrahedrons', 2019A mindful origami workshop provided free to the public as part of the Made in Arts London X Canopy Market takeover. Participants followed written instructions to create a 3D reflective Christmas tree decoration. Origami papers were of my own design sourced directly from my audio-visual installation ‘Phasing II Infinity’. The double-tetrahedron decoration design relates to my the audio-visual installation work ‘Beyond the lights’.

I received a Disctinction in MA Visual Arts: Fine Art Digital in 2020. Students on this course work in many media – including painting, sculpture, print, installation, time-based and digital. The course offers students the enriching experience of collectively exploring what art is in a digital environment. Diverse approaches to creative practice are supported by strong critical engagement with contemporary technologies of making and dissemination. My research paper 'Joining heaven, earth, human and computer: this paper raises challenges in application of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche’s ‘dharma art’ teachings to media software' explored ideas relating to meditation, perception, software studios, human-computer interaction and creative process. This paper was well regarded and I received an A. During the course I developed skills in video editing and animation, coding, projection mapping, and sound installation.
